Five Men Arrested Over Alleged Rape

Five male tourists have been arrested in Benidorm over the alleged rape of a 20 year old Norwegian woman who they met on social media.

The five men are all of French nationality, four of them are aged 19 and the fifth is aged 18.

The alleged assault is though to have taken place in a holiday home in Benidorm and the suspects were found by their social media profiles and photographs.

The Civil Guard arrested the men on the day before they were due to fly home. Police say the presence of a French police officer on a summer policing exchange played a vital role in catching the alleged attackers.

The woman and her friend, also from Norway, went to a health centre in nearby l’Alfaz del Pi to report an alleged case of sexual assault and sexual abuse. They were able to provide full descriptions which led to the arrest of the first two men being arrested at 4am and the other three half an hour later.

The women told police that they had made contact with the men via social media and had agreed to meet up with them in Benidorm. Later, they all went back to the holiday home of the French teenagers but at one point during the night one of the women left the house, leaving the other alone with the 5 men. Later that night the alleged group sexual assault took place and the police are trying to ascertain if the first Norwegian woman left voluntarily or not.

In their complaint, the women provided data and photographs of the men from the profiles of them on social media. The 20-year=old woman and her friend were taken to Villajoyosa hospital for a fuller medical examination.

A police spokesman said “The investigation is still open in order to determine exactly the degree of participation of each of the five men and we are waiting for the findings to be made available.”
